The Switch Lite promises around 3 and 7 hours of gameplay depending on what you’re doing, while new standard Nintendo Switches (post-mid-2019) promise between 4.5 and 9 hours. Older Switch consoles have a markedly worse battery life which can mean 2.5 hours at the bottom range of battery life and 6.5 hours at the top end. So exercise caution when buying second-hand consoles. Ring Fit Adventure Overall a great idea executed really well, the idea of using gamification and turn based role-playing game mechanics is genius. Nintendo have come a long way since Wii Fit as Ring Fit Adventure is challenging but very rewarding, providing a surprisingly intense work out. Anything that gets kids and human train-wrecks like myself up and about and moving is a great idea. The game does a good job of providing encouragement and most of the time does distracts you from the fact you are doing exercise.

The base campaign is a long and enthralling affair, taking place over a period of two months as you’re encouraged to engage in regular workouts without pushing yourself too hard. Things grow more challenging as your fitness improves, the game offering longer and more varied levels with an increasing number of exercise routines to conquer. It’s a solid method of progression, but one that relies on original worlds and enemy designs instead of taking inspiration from a Nintendo roster that could make Ring Fit so much more memorable. Nintendo has a long history when it comes to exercise-driven games. I’m dating myself, but I can say I remember playing Track & Field on NES with the Power Pad. How far we’ve come! Ring Fit Adventure is a full-body workout for grown-ups, but fun, gentle, and ridiculous enough to forget it’s exercise. Billionaires Nintendo is missing out on value capture here, with third parties price gouging motivated buyers. Furthermore, the shortage has led others to seek substitutes, with articles like “5 Alternatives To ‘Ring Fit Adventure’ On The Nintendo Switch” and “The Best Workout Games For Staying Active Inside That Aren’t Ring Fit Adventure” cropping up. Because of the shortage of supply, Nintendo is not only missing out on the single game sales of Ring Fit Adventure, but also potential long-term revenue streams from these consumers who, had they been able to purchase the game, also might be consumers of other Switch titles.
